NBHHCM 2010 Honor Calendar List

National Basketball & Hip-Hop Culture Month 2010 will be celebrating its 2nd Anniversary this coming June. The NBHHCM Foundation has created a list of honorees that will have a day in their honor during NBHHCM for their contribution to the hoops and hip-hop culture fusion time period born in 1984.


June 2010 NBHHCM Calendar List

June 1st- US Mayor's Day, this day is dedicated to all US City Mayor's for their support and Proclamations that have helped bring the cultural celebration of hoops and hip-hop to their cities and communities (Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Washington DC were the 1st 3 US Cities in 2009 to proclaim June as NBHHCM).



June 4th- David J. Stern Day, this day is dedicated to Mr. David J. Stern the current NBA Commissioner who has held the position since February 1, 1984. Commissioner Stern has helped make the NBA a global phenomenon with his vision and guidance. Mr. Stern is the 4th NBA Commissioner in league history and he is honored with the 4th day of June.



June 10th- Hip-Hop Radio Day, this day is dedicated to all of the hip-hop radio stations around the country for their contributions of spreading the hip-hop beats and raps to the air-ways.



June 12th- NBA Player's Day, this day is dedicated to all the past and current NBA players that have personified the culture fusion of hoops and hip-hop since 1984 (Allen Iverson, Shaquille O'Neal, Kevin Garnett, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Tracy McGrady, Dwyane Wade, Carmelo Anthony, Chris Paul, Derrick Rose, Kevin Durant).



June 16th- Biggie & Tupac Day, this day is dedicated to the 2 fallen rap icons that have inspired an entire generation. This day will also be used to reflect on the violent side of hip-hop and how it can be reversed with awareness and dialogue.



June 23rd- Michael Jordan Day, this day is dedicated to Michael Jordan the first superstar player of The "Dunkadelic-Era" In America, 1984-Present. Jordan and his signature "Air Jordan" sneakers became iconic figures of the culture. His imprint on the game is legendary. MJ trademarked the #23 and we honor him on the 23rd day of June.



June 27th- Old School Rap Day, this day is dedicated to all of the old school rappers (RUN-D.M.C., Sugar Hill Gang, Grand Master Flash, Whodini, Afrika Bambaataa, Doug E. Fresh, LL Cool J, Heavy D., Big Daddy Kane, Public Enemy, KRS-One, Dr. Dre, Ice Cube) and rap songs that paved the way and helped make hip-hop the global force that it is today.



June 30th- 4 Elements of Hip-Hop Day, this day, the last day of NBHHCM will be dedicated to the 4 original elements of hip-hop emceeing, djing, graffiti, and breakdancing. These are the 4 elements that created the hip-hop culture in America.
